A Politico article has whipped up a storm of outrage on social media in the last few days. Here’s a perfect example of social media run amuck.
The problem was the misleading headline, “DNC members discuss rule changes to stop Sanders at convention.” Almost nothing could be more inflammatory with Bernie leading in many polls. But let’s pause and read further.
The article itself says “about a half-dozen members” of the DNC have had conversations about changing the rules. There are over 400 DNC members. To change the rules, there would need to be a vote of the entire 400 and the convention delegates could overturn the change when they get to Milwaukee.
Furthermore, DNC Chair Tom Perez immediately issued a statement disavowing the chatter: “Absolutely not.”
