CURT IRELAND, LEGAL EXPERT
TO SPEAK AT DORR BREAKFAST, FEBRUARY 15.
David Schapira, Candidate for Arizona’s Superintendent of Public Instruction will be a featured speaker at the Democrats of the Red Rocks (DORR) breakfast meeting on Thursday, February 15, at 8AM at the Olde Sedona Family Restaurant, 1405 W SR 89A.
Mr. Schapira is a high-school administrator at the East Valley Institute for Technology in Maricopa County and serves on the Tempe City Council. He previously held office in both the Arizona House of Representatives and in the State Senate, where he served as the Minority Leader and as the ranking member on the Education Committee. He was also an elected member of the Tempe Union High School District Governing Board. Mr. Schapira earned his master’s degree in Education Leadership from ASU after receiving a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University.
Mr. Schapira will be speaking about the role of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, which oversees the state’s public school system and directs the State Dept. of Education, and about the Save Our Schools movement to increase per-pupil funding in Arizona.
Also speaking will be Curt Ireland, a retired trial attorney, public defender, and teacher. Mr. Ireland will discuss the recently released “Nunes Memo” and the role of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA), which oversees requests for surveillance warrants against foreign agents inside the United States.
Both speakers will appear as part of DORR’s critical issues breakfast series held on the third Thursday of the month. The organization presents different issues at each. All breakfasts are open to the public. There is a $12 fee to cover the cost of breakfast.
DORR recently opened its new office at 1385 Route 89A (next door to Olde Sedona.) The office is open weekdays from 10 AM-12 noon and from 2-4 PM. Information is available on how to register to vote and on the various candidates running for office in 2018. DORR is an all-volunteer democratic Club for Sedona, the Village of Oak Creek, the Verde Valley, and surrounding communities, that welcomes all independent-minded citizens. Walk-ins are welcome.
