Flagstaff Climate Town Hall
September 7 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
Elders Climate Action (ECA) Arizona Chapter with the financial support of an EDF Summer of Action 2019 grant is hosting Climate Town Hall meetings that will bring together intergenerational, multi-cultural, and interfaith communities to address the urgency of the climate crisis and the necessity for immediate action. The intent is to bring diverse voices together to interact with local, state, and federal officials. Working through community partners, ECA is reaching out to elders, families, and youth to come together to discuss climate issues, innovations, and solutions. We encourage elders to bring their grandchildren and the youth to bring their parents/grandparents.
The Town Hall format will include a combination of speakers, panel discussions, and personal storytelling to address the greatest climate issues that impact Arizona. Panel discussions will include elected officials, experts, youth, and community advocates and allow for diverse voices discussing the urgency of climate action as well as real solutions to building a vibrant and sustainable economy.
The focus will include
- Why we care and why we’re concerned
- The unique climate issues Arizona is facing, such as extreme heat, water, air quality, transportation, health impacts, and managing growth.
- How do we build bridges between generations, minority groups, religious communities, tribal leaders, community leaders, scientists, health professionals, and politicians?
- What solutions and innovations are needed to address Arizona’s unique challenges
You will be encouraged to create 1-2-minute videos about why you care about climate change and why you are calling on members of Congress to take urgent action. We encourage participants at the Faces of Climate Action Town Hall Meetings to live stream the event and share their videos on social media and upload them on the ECA website.
We’re working to build bridges to climate action, not wedges
