Flagstaff Indivisible

June 11 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Our next meeting of the Flagstaff Indivisible Alliance is this coming Tuesday, June 11 at 6:00 PM.  We will meet at the home of Helene and Jim Babbitt at 211 E Elm Avenue in Flagstaff.
We have some special guests at our meeting:  First, Dr. Kevin Gibson B.Sc. PhD. Dr. Gibson is a Mining Engineer with degrees from Nottingham University, UK.  Dr. Gibson has worked in coal mining in the UK, copper mining in Australia, Gold mining in South Africa and the last 20 years of his career were spent working for Saudi Armco, the world’s largest oil company.  Dr. Gibson will talk with us about the risk to water supplies from fracking in Northern Arizona and Statewide.  He will be talking about different fracking techniques and various terminology used in the industry.  Dr. Gibson will identify targeted geographic locations in Arizona and their relationships to aquifers.  Other impacts of fracking that will also be covered include public health, earthquakes, property values and jobs.   This is an urgent issue for our water supplies and the quality of our environment right here in Flagstaff!!  This is a MUST hear discussion!!
Secondly, we will have Dylan Lenzen, Sustainability Specialist for the City of Flagstaff Sustainability Program.  He will be talking with us about the nature of recycling in Flagstaff.  We’ve asked him to talk with us about what can be recycled, what are the economics of recycling in Flagstaff, what happens to the recycled material, what happen to items not recyclable, just what is the state of recycling in Flagstaff and other related matters.  Another important issue for us in Flagstaff.
