Federal Action Alert – April 18, 2021

For Senator Sinema:

Oppose the TRUST ACT and Filibuster Reform.  The Trust Act, just reintroduced by Mitt Romney, would create a fast track, closed door process, allowing a simple majority to make cuts to Social Security and Medicare all under the guise of solvency.  Sen. Sinema was a co-sponsor in the last Congressional Session.  Since then, there has been a big effort to educate legislators about the dangers of this bill.

Sample voice mail or email Senator Sinema“My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX, Arizona. Please do not again support Mitt Romney’s “Trust Act” which has just been reintroduced in the Senate.   I was alarmed to learn that you actually co-sponsored the Act in the last session.   In spite of your expressed reluctance to reform the filibuster, under the Trust Act you would have allowed a simple majority to make massive reductions in our seniors’ Social Security and Medicare benefits.  Today, you insist on an impossible 60 vote majority for super important issues you say you support such as voting rights protections.  Don’t you find this a bit hypocritical?  We don’t need to punish seniors AND voters at the same time using different procedural excuses.   Please, do not support the Trust Act this time around.”

Sen. Sinema:  Call (202) 224-4521 (DC) or (602) 598-7327.  Email via her website at “http://www.sinema.senate.gov”  Tag the Senator at @senatorsinema,

For Sen. Kelly:  Support the PRO ACT.

For Senator Kelly:  “My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX, Arizona.  I’m really concerned that you aren’t co-sponsoring the “Protecting the Right to Organize Act” citing a policy that you don’t co-sponsor legislation unless there is some Republican support.  You haven’t done this with gun legislation, Medicare drug pricing reform, or your support of voting rights legislation (S1).  So why now do you need Republican support on this bill? We need to prevent union busting tactics and strengthen the National Labor Relations Board.  We don’t need excuses for failing to act.”

Sen. Mark Kelley: Call (202) 224-2235 (DC),  Email via his website at http://www.kelly.senate.gov Tag the Senator at @senmarkkelly

For both Senators AND Rep. O’Halleran: Push for inclusion of enhanced water quality measures in the Biden Infrastructure Plan (Time sensitive)

Water quality is center stage right now because of its exclusion from the Biden Infrastructure Plan (BIP).  While the BIP includes significant upgrades in water pipes and pumps it does little to preserve human health if the water being transported is contaminated with cancer causing synthetic chemicals.  The Flagstaff Water Group and other organizations are, as we speak, actively lobbying our senators and representatives to add this important component into the BIP.  Let’s support them! (Note: Sen. Kelly is on a committee directly dealing with the BIP.)

Sample voice mail or email to Dear Senator Sinema/Kelly or Rep. O’Halleran,

“My name is XXXXX and I live in XXXXXX, Arizona.  I’m asking that you support the inclusion of advanced water quality technologies into the Biden Infrastructure Plan.  While the current plan would replace aging water pipes and pumps, our health is not improved if the water carried is still contaminated with synthetic and cancer-causing chemicals.  Please ensure that we fund advanced technologies in the Biden Infrastructure Plan to address this very serious health risk.”
