For Both Senators:  Announce Support for the Human Infrastructure Now, not Later

The bipartisan infrastructure deal, negotiated in part by Sen. Sinema, is only half the battle.  President Biden’s social infrastructure plan needs to be passed by all 50 Democratic Senators through the reconciliation process.  The plan is the first step to seriously address climate change, child and health care, and education.  They would be paid for by rescinding some of the tax cuts to the super wealthy.  The recently introduced Better Care Better Jobs Act (creates enhanced funding to strengthen long-term care today and for the future) is now co-sponsored by 40 Democratic Party Senators, but not our two.  Why not?  Senator Sinema really needs to stop grandstanding and come out early that she supports the passage of the social infrastructure bills through the reconciliation process.  Senator Kelly also needs to support.  Here is a link to a summary of that first bill.

Sample voice mail to both Senators:  “My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX.

While I’m relieved that we now have a traditional infrastructure agreement, I’m urging you to come out now and publicly support social infrastructure bills that must be passed through the reconciliation process and paid for by repealing some of the massive tax cuts to the super wealthy.  Arizona is burning up and we desperately need to address climate change.  We need to address grossly neglected areas of education, child care and health care.  Please issue a public statement that you support addressing these massive problems through passage of social infrastructure bills via the reconciliation process. Thanks.

For Rep. O’Halleran:  Stop taking PAC money from hospitals, insurance and big pharma companies and sign the Patients Over Profits pledge.

Rep. Tom O’Halleran is one of the top recipients of corporate healthcare donations in Congress. During 2020 he received $65,000 from the same corporations that run our current profit driven system. (See https://tracker.healthcare-now.org).   We urge Rep. O’Halleran join five of the seven US Representatives from Arizona and sign the   Patients Over Profits pledge disavowing such contributions.  Please sign the petition yourself and call or email  Rep. O’Halleran to do the same.  We’d like him to stop accepting money from corporate healthcare profiteers.

.

Sample voicemail or email to Rep. O’Halleran:  “My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX.  I was disturbed to find out that you accepted some $65,000 in your last campaign from PAC associated with private hospitals, health insurance interests and big pharma.  These interests put profits over a rational health care delivery system.  I’m asking you join five of your fellow Democrats in the House of Representatives from Arizona and sign the Patients Over Profits pledge not to take these contributions.  Please put our health above for-profit corporate interests.

Rep. O’Halleran: Call (202) 225-3361 or send an email via his website at http://www.ohalleran.house.gov
