FEDERAL ACTION ALERT

For Senators Sinema and Kelly and Representative O’Halleran:   Support and Co-Sponsor the “Remove the Stain Act” and Rescind Award of 20 Medals of Honor to those responsible for the Wounded Knee Massacre.

On December 29, 1890, U.S. soldiers slaughtered hundreds of unarmed Lakota men, women, and children at Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota during what came to be known as the Wounded Knee Massacre. Congress awarded twenty Medals of Honor to soldiers for the shameful acts that occurred during the Wounded Knee Massacre. The Remove the Stain Act would rescind these Medals of Honor.

Sample voice mail or email to both Senators“My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX, Arizona. I’m asking that you co-sponsor and vigorously support S. 1073, the “Remove the Stain Act”, which would rescind the 1890 award of 20 Medals of Honor to those involved in the slaughter of hundreds of unarmed men, women and children in the Wounded Knee Massacre.  Given our huge population of Native Americans in Arizona is there a reason that both of our Arizona senators are not co-sponsoring this long delayed effort to reverse a gross injustice?

Sen. Sinema:  Call (202) 224-4521 (DC) or (602) 598-7327.  Email via her website at “http://www.sinema.senate.gov”  Tag the Senator at @senatorsinema

Sen. Mark Kelly: Call (202) 224-2235 (DC),  Email via his website at http://www.kelly.senate.gov Tag the Senator at @senmarkkelly

Sample voice mail or email for Rep. O’Halleran:  “My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX, Arizona. I’m asking that you join Reps. Gallego and Grijalva and co-sponsor and vigorously support H.R. 2226, the “Remove the Stain Act” which would rescind the 1890 award of 20 Medals of Honor to those involved in the slaughter of hundreds of unarmed men, women and children in the Wounded Knee Massacre.  Given our huge population of Native Americans in CD1 I really think you need to be in the forefront of reversing this gross injustice.  Thanks.”

For Both Senators:  Support S. 1279 – “Medicare at 50 Act”.    U.S. Senators Baldwin (D-WI), Stabenow (D-MI), and Brown (D-OH) have just reintroduced the Medicare at 50 Act to give people between the ages of 50 and 64 years old the option of buying into Medicare. Millions of Americans approaching retirement or forced to retire early due to layoffs or mandatory retirement face increasing health care needs and rising costs.  Allowing more Americans to buy into Medicare has the potential to lower their costs, reinforce the existing Medicare program, and strengthen the existing health insurance marketplace. Polling from the Kaiser Family Foundation indicates that 77 percent of the public supports giving people between the ages of 50 and 64 the option to buy Medicare.  (Given the polling, if Republicans defeat this bill through use of the filibuster, their opposition will be very unpopular).

For Senator either Senator“My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX, Arizona.   I’m asking that you strongly support S. 1279 the “Medicare at 50 Act”, which would allow a buy in to Medicare for those between ages 50 and 64.  This is a winner for you as recent polling by the Kaiser Family Foundation indicates 77% of the public supports such a buy in.  It has the potential to lower our insurance costs, reinforce the Medicare program and to strengthen the existing health insurance marketplace.”

Sen. Mark Kelly: Call (202) 224-2235 (DC),  Email via his website at http://www.kelly.senate.gov Tag the Senator at @senmarkkelly
