Immigration arrests in Arizona soar under President Donald Trump

Statistics provided by ICE show the agency arrested 41,898 immigrants during the first 100 days of Trump’s administration, including 1,770 in Arizona. That is an increase of nearly 35 percent nationally and nearly 12.6 percent in Arizona, compared with the same period the year before.

The sharp increase in arrests has drawn criticism from immigration lawyers and advocates. They say ICE officers are driving up arrest numbers by going after undocumented immigrants who are the easiest to find by targeting undocumented immigrants who check in regularly with ICE.

Trump’s actions again do not match his rhetoric — he’s not going after “bad hombres;” he’s breaking up families and disrupting the labor force.
