Senator Peshlakai Resigns

Senator Jamescita Peshlakai has served our County and the State in the legislature as a Representative and the Senator from Legislative District 7 since 2013. In the 2018 session, she was co-Minority Whip in the Senate. She is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War and a graduate of Northern Arizona University (BA, MA).

Yesterday, Senator Peshlakai announced that she will continue her life of public service in a new role with the United States Department of the Interior. We congratulate her and her family and wish them well.

Here is her statement:

Today 12/21/2021 at 11:30 AM, I resigned as Senator from Legislative District 7 in the Arizona State Senate. As an indigenous woman, veteran, and descendant of Diné’, Hopi, and Chiricahua Apache First Nations people, I am proud of the time I have spent in the legislature representing ALL constituents of Legislative District 7 and speaking as their voice on state issues.

My dedication to public service will never end nor will my work for the people of Arizona. It has been the honor of my lifetime to have served the people of Arizona and I am immensely grateful for the experience. I will begin work at the federal level in the new year and will be more impactful for all of the western United States. Stay tuned for my next role as a public servant at the Department of the Interior.

Most respectfully dóó tʼáá íiyisíí ahéhee’,Jamescita Peshlakai, SenatorArizona State Senate – LD7
