The Coconino County Democratic Party has divided itself into a number of regions to facilitate organizing efforts. Here’s an encouraging report from the West Region:
We may be small in terms of numbers but we are mighty in terms of activism in the Western region of the county.
There are about 200 registered Democrats with high-probability-of -volunteering scores in the Region 6 area so we invited them to a “meet the like-minded picnic” at Kaibab Lake on June 23. Being our first effort, we were pleased with the turnout of 23, including us, spouses and 11 newcomers. We even picked up a few new volunteers!
Our next social event was even more successful! We invited all 674 registered Democrats from Bellemont, Parks, Williams (north and southside), and west and north Kaibab, added a few candidates to the menu, and had a social gathering at the Grand Canyon Brewery, Sept. 14.
About 45 adults, three babies, and one dog came out for drinks and to meet State Senate hopeful Felicia French, State House candidate Coral Evans, US District 1 House candidate Eva Putzova, the incumbent Coconino County Treasurer, Sarah Benatar, and Shea Stanfield, who is seeking a seat on the Arizona Corporation Commission.
Our future plans include the Grand Canyon area, where we hope to find volunteers willing to pick up the mantle in Tusayan, Valle and the Canyon Village. We are inviting Democrats to meet us at the Big E Steakhouse in Tusayan, Oct. 24, 4-6 pm. We are also organizing a canvas of North Williams with our county interns in October, as well as a phone-banking effort in the Grand Canyon.
