- Demand our House Representative REJECT the planned attacks by anti-conservation lawmakers on our public lands and climate actions. Nearly a dozen bills being proosed by extremist Republicans would reverse President Biden’s and Secretary Haaland’s progress to protect our public lands and promote climate actions. These proposals would reverse protections for treasured landscapes like the Grand Canyon, Grand Staircase Escalante, Artic Refuge and Western Arctic, they would hand the Boundary Waters over to mining interests and it would turn the Greater Chaco into all-you-can-drill oil and gas buffet!! Demand Eli Crane reject these bills, including H.R.1, H.R. 3397, H.R. 6009 and amendments to the Interior Appropriations Act of 2024. All of these jeopardize our public lands! Other proposals by extremist lawmakers would block key conservation efforts the Biden Administration has initiated – efforts to balance land management via the Bureau of Land Management’s Public Lands Rule, and actions to protect the Artic Refuge and the Western Arctic from needless oil drilling. This is a transparent effort to kneecap our government while handing public lands over to industrial interests. INSIST Representative Crane REJECT these extreme efforts!!
- INSIST that all of our Federal Representatives fully support and pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act ASAP!! Our freedom to vote is under attack! Recently an appeals court of Trump appointed judges eviscerated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act declaring that ONLY the U.S. Attorney General can sue states or localities that implement racially biased voting procedures. Ten years ago the Supreme Court’s Shelby County decision gutted Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, opening the floodgates to a wave of restrictive voting bills, extreme gerrymandering, voter roll purges and polling location closures targeting voters of color. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would modernize and restore the full protections of the VRA. The VRA has long enjoyed bipartisan support having been reauthorized under Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. Congress MUST fulfill their obligation to protect the to vote by enacting legislation that will fully restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act!!
- Oppose warrantless government surveillance of Americans!! Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act was enacted to make it easier for the government to address foreign terrorist threats. The law gives the government broad authority to surveil non-Americans located abroad, but targeting Americans is prohibited. Unfortunately, intelligence agencies have used legal loopholes to turn Section 702 into a go-to domestic spying authority, using it to conduct hundreds of thousands of warrantless “backdoor” searches for Americans’ private communications every year. When intelligence and law enforcement officials can access American’s sensitive information without a warrant, they are more likely to rely on improper considerations such as conscious or unconscious biases or political beliefs. Section 702 is due to expire on December 31. Demand our House and Senate Representatives oppose its re-authorization as part of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act or any other “must-pass” spending bill!!
