- Insist Congress pass a STRONG farm bill that invests in critical anti-hunger programs!! The farm bill is the largest piece of federal legislation for food and farming, impacting access to nutritious food for the millions of people in the US facing hunger. It is revamped every five years and its time to do it again. Insist our Representatives pass a farm bill that includes increased funding for TEFAP that sends nutritious, high-quality food from farms to food banks to families and individuals facing hunger across the country. Also the new farm bill needs to protect SNAP (food stamps) which is the cornerstone of the nations federal nutrition programs and provides monthly grocery assistance to 40 million people! Recent polling shows that 85% of people, across the political spectrum, support increased TEFAP funding and 80% support increased monthly SNAP benefit amounts to reflect rising food prices. Urge our Representatives to pass a strong farm bill that invests in critical anti-hunger programs like TEFAP and SNAP!!!
- Tell our Representatives in the House and Senate: No “Fiscal Commission”!! The House Budget Committee passed a harmful, so-called “fiscal commission” and now Speaker Johnson is looking to add it to must-pass legislation in the coming weeks. This commission is nothing but a way to fast track cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and other key programs behind closed doors so the American people won’t know who to blame. In January, 118 House Representatives sent a letter to House leadership to reject attaching a “fiscal commission” to any must-pass funding bills. We need to remind policymakers that putting our country on the right fiscal path should not come at the cost of meeting urgent public needs or cutting critical programs and services. It’s time Congress listened to the 81% of the American public and reject cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP and other vital programs. Insist our Representatives reject any “fiscal commission” activity behind closed doors!!
