- Insist our Senators NOT support the “Anti-semitism Awareness Act”!! Unfortunately, the House passed this bill – 320-91 this week and it is going to the Senate. According to the JVP Action group (Jewish, Voice, Peace Action) – a 501(c)(4) organization which aims to build a multiracial, intergenerational movement of Jews and allis to transform U.S. policy towards justice in Israel/Palestine – the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is lobbying Congress to pass a law adopting a controversial, dangerous definition of antisemitism. This definition conflates criticisms of the Israeli state with antisemitism, in order to further repress the incredible student activism across the country. This bill will likely help censor and attack the Palestinian rights movement. This is a further effort to stifle free speech, falsely paint anti-Zionist activism as antisemitic and put a target on the back of anyone in solidarity with Palestine. The genocide of Palestinians is morally wrong and must stop!! This act is another attempt to silence anyone who opposes this terrible treatment of Palestinians. Demand our Senators resist any support for this bill!!
- Ask our Representative and Senators support the EQUALITY ACT!! This year an unprecedented number of anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced or passed in state legislatures across the country. There is no federal laws that explicitly protect LGBTQ+ people from discrimination. This absence of federal protection allows state legislatures to enact heinous laws that outright discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community. Congress can now act to protect all Americans’ inalienable right to exist. The EQUALITY ACT, if passed, would become federal legislation that explicitly affirms LGBTQ+ civil rights, protecting LGBTQ+ individuals from legislative attacks at the state level. This is an issue of basic freedom and protection from discrimination. Demand Congress pass the EQUALITY ACT!!
- Appeal to our Representative and Senators to support real solutions for homelessness and oppose arrests and fines! The underlying causes of homelessness are the severe shortage of affordable housing and the widening gap between incomes and housing costs. If we hope to reduce homelessness we must treat the issue’s root causes, not punish the end result. Recent legislative efforts to address the issue include the Ending Homelessness Act, a bill to ensure universal rental assistance for all households in need, and another is the Housing Crisis Response Act, which would be an historic investment in affordable housing. These represent a vital effort to transform our approach to homelessness from punitive measures to compassionate, evidence-based solutions. Demand our Representative and Senators protect the unhoused from cruel arrests and tickets!!
