- Ask our Senators and Representative to pass the NOW Act ASAP!! Incredibly the President can not expand urgently needed offshore wind development without being required to add even more oil drilling leases!! Before any sale of an offshore wind lease can occur, there must have been a sale of at least 60 million acres for oil drilling leasing in the past 365 days. Sixty million acres is greater than the area of 42 of our 50 states. Our efforts to deal with climate change is being directly countered by this restrictive requirement. The Nonrestrictive Offshore Wind (NOW) Act would eliminate this terrible requirement and allow offshore wind development to proceed without adding further oil drilling! Demand our federal representatives pass the NOW Act!!
- Insist our Senators call for a ceasefire in Gaza and oppose the Rafah invasion by Israel. It is important to acknowledge the great effort by President Biden to help broker a ceasefire, secure a safe return of the hostages, and allow for the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. It was indeed a real shock and heartbreak when over 1160 Israeli, American and foreign citizens were brutally murdered on October 7 alongside the over 200 hostages who were abducted. It was a sad sad day and all good people continue to call for the safe return of the remaining hostages. However, may believe that Israel has gone beyond the stated goal of rooting out Hamas. Over 35,000 Palestinians have been killed (including more than 14,500 children), more than 80,000 injured and the remaining 1.2 million Palestinians sheltering in Rafah being subject to famine and starvation. The situation in Gaza has become a terrible humanitarian crisis. Across the US, 70% of likely voters support a permanent ceasefire including 83% of Democrats and 56% of Republicans. This is not a partisan issue, it is a humanitarian crisis! Call on our Senators to use their influence to strongly urge an immediate ceasefire and return of the remaining hostages!
- Insist our federal representatives protect and preserve public media! In recent weeks there have been growing calls in Congress to defund NPR, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). It is important that we safeguard the more than 1500 locally managed public radio and television stations that serve communities across the country. NPR and PBS are national content providers and do not operate local stations. Legislation to prohibit NPR and PBS funding would hinder your local stations’ ability to deliver national and regional programming. NPR and PBS also play a critical role in the national emergency alert and warning system. Further, the elimination of CPB funding would devastate stations’ local service missions. Urge our Senators and House Representative o fully support federal funding for public media!!
- Let Eli Crane know just what you think of his recent co-sponsored bills! Eli Crane has co-sponsored the “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act” which aims to require states to obtain documentary proof of citizenship to register voters for federal elections. They already do this. According to Crane, millions of illegal aliens are being allowed to register to vote and we need to “protect” our election integrity. This proposition is a blatant lie! Crane has also co-sponsored the incredibly named “Silencers Help Us Save Hearing” (SHUSH) Act! This act would exempt silencers from being regulated since they are need to protect shooters hearing!! What can I say?? Give our very own Representative a sense of how you feel about his bills!
