    1. Demand our Senate representatives reject the “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility” (SAVE) Act that was passed by the House this week!! The SAVE Act is a ridiculous attempt to prevent non-US citizens from voting in federal elections – something they are already ineligible to do.  The bill would require voters to present proof of citizenship when registering to vote, such as a passport.  This must be done IN PERSON!! So, no more voter registrations to be done on-line or via mail-in forms.  In addition, if you use your birth certificate as proof of citizenship – then the name on the certificate MUST match your current name!! So, women who change their names after marriage will have to provide additional proof that they are a citizen.  The bill does not include proof of name change or a marriage certificate as proof of identity!!  This is clearly a blatant attempt to significantly disenfranchise voting rights to women, Native Americans, and many others!!  Over 21.3 Million Americans do not have immediate access to proof of citizenship, more than 140 Million Americans do not have a passport, 69 Million women who have taken their spouses last name do not have a birth certificate that matches their legal name, the in-person registration requirement would make harder for military members serving abroad to vote.  Insist that our Senators actively and firmly reject the SAVE Act!!

     

    1. Demand our Senators reject the No Rogue Ruling Act that was passed by the House one week ago!!! This act would bar district court judges from issuing nationwide injunctions, the exact type of ruling that has blocked many of Trump’s plans to date.  Federal judges across the country have been consistently ruling against the Trump administration’s many unlawful and unconstitutional actions.  Republicans are looking for ways to constrain the independent power of the judiciary to ensure that Trump’s clearly unconstitutional actions can move forward without restraint.  Republicans are looking for any way to constrain the independent power of the judicial branch.  Strategies include congressional hearings and/or impeachment resolutions against judges who make decisions they don’t like.  They also are considering blocking funding for those courts they don’t like or, indeed, completely eliminating entire district courts.  The No Rogue Ruling Act is just such an attempt.  Our Senators MUST REJECT this blatant power grab!!
    1. Insist all of our Members of Congress strongly resist any attempt to sell off public lands to fund tax cuts and support special interests and developers!!! Some members of Congress are actually advocating to sell public lands to provide funds for tax cuts or for special mining and development interests.  Some are using the notion of a lack of affordable housing to justify this awful effort.  Public lands support thousands of species of wildlife, support indigenous practices, provide for outdoor recreation, and fuel the economies of rural communities.  Selling off public lands won’t solve the affordable housing crisis or balance the budget, but it will result in significant harm to the wildlife, people and communities that rely on them. Demand our Representatives strong support preserving our Public Lands!!!
