Two years ago today, the GOP and Trump tried to repeal Obamacare. The House passed a full repeal bill that was later stopped in the Senate by one vote — John McCain’s. Now Senator McSally sits in McCain’s seat but then she was a Congresswoman in the House who said, as the vote was about to begin, “Let’s get this fucking thing done!” (Direct quote.) Then she voted to repeal.
Then, the GOP House members went to the Rose Garden where they celebrated their vote with Trump.
Thanks to Democrats in the Senate, and three Republicans, the GOP’s celebration was short-lived. But now they have William Barr as Attorney General and he has joined state Republican Attorney General’s in a lawsuit to declare Obamacare unconstitutional.
Barr’s legal position is so unprecedented that not even Jeff Sessions would join that lawsuit when he was AG. It’s unprecedented because it not only refuses to defend, but actively attacks, a U.S. Statute. One that protects healthcare for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions, allows sons and daughters to remain on their parent’s employer’s insurance to age 36, and has allowed 20 million Americans who previously had no health insurance to have it.
There is no rationale reason for Republicans to hate Obamacare. They just hate it because it’s Obamacare. Anyone who might die for lack of health insurance is simply collateral damage to blind hatred.
