- Demand our Senate and House representatives reject the “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility” (SAVE) Act!! The SAVE Act is a ridiculous attempt to prevent non-US citizens from voting in federal elections – something they are already ineligible to do. The bill would require voters to present proof of citizenship when registering to vote, such as a passport. This must be done IN PERSON!! So, no more voter registrations to be done on-line or via mail-in forms. In addition, if you use your birth certificate as proof of citizenship – then the name on the certificate MUST match your current name!! So, women who change their names after marriage will have to provide additional proof that they are a citizen. The bill does not include proof of name change or a marriage certificate as proof of identity!! This is clearly a blatant attempt to significantly disenfranchise voting rights to women, Native Americans, and many others!! Insist that all of our representatives actively and firmly reject the SAVE Act!!
- Insist our Senators reject the nomination of Linda McMahon as Secretary of Education!! McMahon is the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. (WWE) and has NO experience in education. McMahon is currently facing a civil lawsuit that alleges that McMahon and her husband knew about sexual misconduct taking place in their organization and they did nothing about it. McMahon embraces the extremist group Moms for Liberty, which promotes censorship of LGBTQ+ topics, books bans, and wants to abolish the Department of Education. If she becomes education secretary, she will revise the Title IX rules that serve to protect students from sex discrimination, including sexual violence. Insist our senators do EVERYTHING they can to REJECT Linda McMahon’s nomination as Secretary of Education!!
- Demand that Eli Crane reject the proposed devastating budget being brought forward in the US House!! The budget proposal being worked in the House includes an extension of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts – giving another $4.5 Trillion to the rich, would raise the debt ceiling by $4.0 Trillion, would cut $880 Billion from the House Energy and Commerce Committee which oversees Medicaid and $230 Billion from the House Agricultural Committee which oversees the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), with additional cuts to spending that total $1.5 Trillion. We need to remind Eli Crane that in CD 2 fully 38%, or 300,000 people, of the population is currently enrolled in Medicaid, that in CD 2, 17% or 136,000 people, of the population live below the poverty level. If Eli Crane claims to support his constituents, he should refuse to support this terrible budget proposal. Trump insisted during his campaign that Medicaid would not be touched so what’s the deal? Demand that Eli Crane oppose this budget proposal ASAP!!
