USE RTS 1.0 or 2.0 ON THESE BILLS
LD 7, 6 and 1 LEGISLATOR SPONSORED BILLS
SB 1268 – OPPOSE – ROGERS – Would require hospitals that accept Medicare to include on admission or registration forms a space for the patient to indicate their U.S. citizenship status. This sets a dangerous precedent and will discourage injured or ill people from getting treatment for fear of persecution.
EDUCATION
HB 2867 – OPPOSE – Would further punish calls for freedom for Palestinians by students. The bill uses a definition of antisemitism that equates any criticism of Israel as being anti-semitic.
HB 2880 – OPPOSE – Would ban “unauthorized encampments” on university and community college campuses. Simply an attempt to restrict student protests.
HB 2031 – OPPOSE – Repeals the Arizona Commission for the Arts and the Arts Trust Fund – only state sponsored funding stream for the Arts. The bill also eliminates the council that provides the minimum standards that all Arizona State school bus drivers operate under. Such an action will reduce the safety of our children.
HB 2058 – OPPOSE – STRIKER – Would allow college students to be exempt from vaccine requirements with little proof or reasons for doing so. USE THE PHRASE – OPPOSE THE STRIKER in the comments section for RTS 1.0
HB 2213 – SUPPORT – Would appropriate funds to provide more free school lunches and eliminate co-pay for reduced price lunches. This would reduce the stigma of getting free lunches by making it as universal as possible.
HB 2725 – OPPOSE – Would force public schools to notify parents if their child does not recite the Pledge of Allegiance during the time set aside for it each day. How is such a thing monitored? How to make kids feel stigmatized.
DISABILITIES SUPPORT
HB 2816 – SUPPORT – Would provide the Arizona Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) with supplemental funding to ensure that these agencies continue to provide services to people with disabilities through the end of 2024-2025. All Democrats have co-sponsored the bill.
ENVIRONMENT
HB 2201 & HB 2679 – OPPOSE – Would relieve electric utilities of responsibility for wild fires caused by their infrastructure and would allow them to issue bonds to pay for debt in assets without proper accountability, oversight, or consumer protection, and could shift major costs to future ratepayers.
WATER MANAGEMENT
SB 1520 – OPPOSE – STRIKER – Would establish some Basin Management areas for some key areas but ignores other critical areas. It sets very low requirements on groundwater pumping reduction. Levels set are way below what is required to stabilize the aquafers affected.
SB 1611 – OPPOSE – Would accommodate development where additional water is no longer physically available. This is designed to apply to those who have a grandfathered ground water pumping permit for irrigation of farmland to take that land out of production and use that water to support development.
HB 2087 – OPPOSE – Would appropriate an unspecified amount of money to an unspecified agency to “clean and restore” underground storage facilities for flood control. Way too confusingly written – perhaps a better use of this money, whatever it is, as a deposit in the Arizona Water Protection Fund.
IMMIGRATION
SB 1164 – OPPOSE – Sometimes called the “Evil ICE Act”. Would require local law enforcement to totally comply with all federal law enforcement and ICE agencies in the arrest and incarceration of immigrants.
HB 2606 – OPPOSE – Would appropriate $50 Million for targeting people at the border for deportation.
SB 1111 – OPPOSE – Would set up a fund to pay law enforcement agencies $2,500 every time they arrest an undocumented person that leads to their removal from the country by federal employees. This would transform Arizona’s police into bounty hunters!!
SB 1088 – OPPOSE – STRIKER – Would penalize local governments or their contractors if they violate a strict liability requirement that they comply with federal immigration law. This is race-baiting and impractical. USE THE PHRASE – OPPOSE THE STRIKER in the comments section for RTS 1.0.
FOSTER CARE
SB 1490 – SUPPORT – Would gradually raise the monthly stipend for kinship foster care parents to the same $600 per month that every other foster parent gets.
PUBLIC SAFETY
HB 2456 – SUPPORT – STRIKER – Would hold adults responsible if they fail to take “reasonable measures” to secure firearms from minors. USE THE PHRASE – SUPPORT THE STRIKER in the comments section for RTS 1.0.
HEALTH CARE
HB 2926 – OPPOSE – STRIKER – Would make it more difficult for Arizona’s poor to keep their government healthcare benefits. The measure would raise the income threshold and require 20 per week working for “able bodied” people to retain the healthcare benefits. This is terrible policy, its punitive, fails to move people out of poverty and will lead to poor people losing their healthcare benefits. USE THE PHRASE – OPPOSE THE STRIKER in the comments section for RTS 1.0.
HB 2439 – OPPOSE – Would ban the Department of Health Services and the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System from displaying any website link to any organization that perform or provide abortion information.
HB 2547 – OPPOSE – Dangerous and overbroad bill that attempts to erode the effectiveness of Prop 139 by prohibiting funding for entities which provide abortion information or services.
HB 2681 – OPPOSE – Imposes a raft of requirements for medication abortion, likely in violation of Prop 139. Arizona citizens voted overwhelmingly to get politicians out of their healthcare decisions, specifically regarding abortion.
