2018 State House candidate Colonel
(Ret.) Felicia French, a nurse, sustainability scientist, educator and former
MedEvac helicopter pilot, announces her 2020 candidacy for LD 6 State Senate.
French came within 577 votes of winning the 2018 State House race, and she is
ready to run again. She is determined to continue the fight for a better
future for all Arizonans.
French says she will fight for “improving public education, affordable and
accessible healthcare, and protecting our drinking water from hydraulic
fracking.”
French, a third-generation Arizonan and Pine resident, has a proven commitment to public service as a combat veteran, MedEvac helicopter pilot, registered nurse and educator.
French retired from the Army as a senior medical advisor in Afghanistan, after 32 years of service. After her military career, French attended Arizona State University to earn her master’s degree in Sustainable Solutions. She then went on to teach sustainability at Mesa Community College and Arizona State University and worked five years on the Navajo Nation with the locals on sustainable solutions to economic growth. She also worked as a hospice nurse in her rural community and earned “Volunteer of the Year” Award in 2016 for her role in the Take Pride Pine & Strawberry Project, the local Civil Air Patrol, Tonto Rim Search and Rescue, and the Community Emergency Response Team.
Her leadership skills were formed through her experience working her way up the ranks from Private to Colonel in the U.S. Army and Arizona National Guard. French served as a leader during multiple deployments, including a combat tour in Afghanistan and humanitarian missions in Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
French’s experiences in healthcare, the military, energy and sustainability, and education heavily influenced her political platform.
As an educator and a single mother, French understands the importance of a quality education for our children and family well-being. She is a strong advocate for improving our public education system starting with early-childhood care and all-day kindergarten, and ensuring that our young adults are set up for success with affordable options for college or trade schools, so they can enter the workforce without excessive student debt.
She is also a strong supporter of advocating for veterans and their families, providing affordable, accessible and quality healthcare for all, passing laws for responsible gun-ownership and transitioning to renewable energy to create sustainable jobs that protect the environment and resources for our children’s future.
