- Demand our Senators refuse to confirm the nomination of Kash Patel as Director of the FBI!! Patel has plans to remake the FBI into a tool of Trump. His objective is to fire the top ranks of the FBI, prosecute leakers and journalists, replace the national security workforce with those loyal to Trump, and much more. He has published his initial list of those he intends to use the FBI to “go after” that has 56 names on it and its not complete. Those on his “hit list” include journalists, former FBI officials, former Attorney Generals, President Biden, witnesses for the January 6 House investigation, and many more! Although Patel would need a factual basis for instituting a FBI investigation it could be a very flimsy pretext that would result in those impacted to very disruptive and expensive legal defense – even if charges are never brought. Patel’s nomination is a clear example of how Trump is creating outlandish actions as “normal”. The GOP’s embrace of Patel’s extremist leadership style reveals how far Republicans are willing to go to undermine institutions in service to Trump. Kash Patel MUST NOT become the Director of the FBI – Senators do your JOB!!
- Be blunt in your response to Senator Sinema about her NAY vote on the nomination of Lauren McFerran to the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board)!! This past Wednesday, 12/11/24, the Senate rejected the nomination of Ms. McFerran to the NLRB by a vote of 50 to 49. One of the 50 voting against her nomination was Senator Sinema! Without McFerran, Democrats will hold a 2 to 1 majority at the NLRB, which enforces workers’ rights to join unions and advocate for better working conditions. This means that Trump could move quickly to shepherd two nominees through the Senate and the NLRB would be Republican controlled. Senator Sinema, once again, has show her clear distain for working people and has cemented an immediate shift in the NLRB’s past support for workers. Tell Senator Sinema how disgusted you are with her continued disregard for her constituents and working America!!
- Ask President Biden to establish the Great Bend of the Gila in Arizona as a National Monument! The Great Bend of the Gila is a unique area of the Sonoran Desert, an ecologically fragile and culturally significant area that needs protection from destructive roads, mining and from harm to cultural resources. At least 13 Tribes across the Southwest have connections to this region, which was once a flourishing river valley and features remnants of indigenous structures and cultural sites. Public lands are one of our greatest treasures, and this important area deserves to be safeguarded for future generations and for the Tribes that have connections to it. Please ask President Biden to establish a national monument here to safeguard these lands!
- Again, be blunt in your response to Representative Eli Crane for his resolution to award Daniel Penny with the Congressional Gold Medal!! Daniel Penny, a white 26 year old, ex-marine, killed a 30 year old black man, Jordan Neely, on a New York subway on May 1, 2023. Neely was a deeply mentally deficient man who was yelling and thrashing around on the subway – causing some to feel threatened – but he never physically accosted anyone. Penny placed Neely in a chokehold that he held for some 6 minutes or more and as a result Neely died. This past week, Penny, was acquitted by a jury who could not agree on a verdict for a charge of second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. Neely, whose mother was murdered when he was 13, had a long history of mental issues and is a clear example of how someone can just be lost to the organizations and institutions of a big city who are tasked with helping such people. This was a tragic event but there is no real evidence that the use of lethal force by Penny was justified. In another afront to human suffering and tragedy, Penny joined Trump, Vance and Musk at the Army-Navy football game yesterday! The action by Crane to award Penny the Congressional Gold Medal defies justice and human compassion. Let Crane know how you feel!
- Demand our Senators REFUSE to confirm the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services! Despite overwhelming scientific evidence, Kennedy has repeatedly promoted debunked theories inaccurately linking vaccines to autism and other health issues. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans. It oversees critical institutions like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which are responsible for disease prevention, food and drug safety, medical research and implementing health policies that affect every American. As Secretary of HHS, Kennedy’s history of unscientific beliefs would lead to delays in drug approvals, potentially withholding lifesaving treatments, reduced funding for critical medical research, and the promotion of unproven and dangerous alternative treatments. With Kennedy at the help of HHS we would suffer with less reliable health information from government sources, increased risk of infectious disease outbreaks, reduced access to proven medical treatments and higher health care costs due to ineffective policies. Kennedy MUST NOT be confirmed as HHS Secretary!! Senators do your JOB!!
