FEDERAL ACTION ALERT – February 26, 2024

Produced by Coconino County Democratic Party

  1. Ask President Biden to remove the Trump selected Postmaster General Louis DeJoy ASAP!  DeJoy’s 10 year plan is to slow down mail delivery, eliminate thousands of jobs, and raise postage rates.  He has a history of obstructing voting by mail and he spent most of 2020 trying to sabotage the vote by mail effort for the 2020 election.  He has imposed outrageous restrictions on postal workers, removed mailboxes by the truckload, and more.  Right now, President Biden can fix this problem by nominating two new public servants to open seats on the USPS Board of Governors.  These can hold DeJoy accountable and help expand our crucial postal services – NOT cut them for political gain.  Ask President Biden to add good candidates to the Board of Governors and fire Louis DeJoy!!
  1. Demand that our House and Senate Representatives support Social Security – NOT cut it!!  This year February 29th marks the date when someone making $1 Million stops paying into Social Security for the year.  Over 94% of workers pay into Social Security all year long.  The ultra-rich take most of the year off from contributing to Social Security.  Right-wing politicians and cable news pundits frequently say we can’t afford Social Security.  Their solution is to cut benefits for working people who’ve paid into the program for their entire lives.  They never suggest we simply require the wealthiest people in America to pay into Social Security all year long, just like the rest of us do.  Over 72% of Americans – including 51% of Republicans – support expanding, not cutting, Social Security by asking millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share.  Tell our Representatives: Don’t cut Social Security and Medicare!! Make millionaires and billionaires pay into Social Security all year long!!
  1. Demand that our House Representative do his JOB and fund the government!  The House needs to address the funding issues for the government or a partial shutdown will happen on March 1!  The  MAGA Republicans in the House have made their intentions crystal clear – they are willing to force a costly shutdown to impose their extremist agenda on the nation.  One of the key perpetrators in this scheme is our own House Representative, Eli Crane!  He, along with his other extremist MAGA cohorts want to have a CLOSED-DOOR commission cut Medicare and Social Security as a precondition to keeping the government funded.  In addition, they want to pass hateful immigration bills, target the Justice Department and FBI for political purposes, end policies at the Pentagon that they call “cancerous woke” – defined to be anything they don’t like.  The position of OUR Representative is designed to force a costly government shutdown – one that will impact the poor, elderly, children, and hard-working families everywhere the most!!  They are demanding conditions that can never be passed just to completely disregard the people and impose their own personal agendas on everyone.  DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN!!!  We need our Representative, Eli Crane, to step up and stop this foolishness and get to work on the serious business of governance.  Pass legislation to keep the government operating ASAP!!  DO YOUR JOB!!!
