FOR BOTH SENATOR SINEMA AND SENATOR KELLY: FILIBUSTER DEBATE JAN 17 AND VOTING RIGHTS – ALL HANDS ON DECK!
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has announced that, on Jan. 17, the Senate will debate and vote on easing filibuster rules in an effort to advance long stalled voting rights legislation crucial to saving our democracy! As you know Republican controlled legislatures across the country are using only majority votes to vastly restrict our voting rights. Yet the Senate need 60 votes (a super majority) to preserve our voting rights and our democracy. This is our last best chance.
Let in particular Sen. Sinema know what you think!
Sample voicemail/email to our Senators: “I’m a lifelong Democrat living in XXXXX. I appreciate your co-sponsorship of the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. However, your support is meaningless when your Republican colleagues block any sincere effort to protect Americans’ voting rights. The filibuster MUST be modified to allow for majority passage of legislation crucial to preserving voting rights. Republican controlled legislatures everywhere are using majority votes only to restrict our voting. Isn’t it time you supported the same majority passage of legislation that protect this most basic right in the Senate?

B. Object to our Dems Approving Sale of Weapons to Saudi Arabia
When Joe Biden ran for the White House, he campaigned on making Saudi Arabia a “pariah” on the international stage. Saudi Arabia’s well known track record of murdering journalists and political opponents, treating women as chattel, and provoking one of the worst human rights atrocities in the world in Yemen’s civil war is well known. Most of our Democratic Senators voted against arms sales to Saudi Arabia during the Trump administration. A year into his presidency, President Biden and now our Democrats have sold us out in favor of the arms industry. The State Dept has just approved a $650 million worth of air-to-air missiles to Saudi Arabia allegedly only for “defensive purposes.” Bipartisan attempts to prevent the sale were just defeated in the Senate including by our two Senators. Our country should not be supporting major human rights abusers with lethal arms, offensive or defensive. If you feel the same way, register your disappointment.
Sample script to Senators: Recently you voted against restricting the sale of extremely lethal missiles to Saudi Arabia. Shame on you. We should not be funding major human rights abusers with any weapons. While running for President, Joe Biden said he would turn Saudi Arabia into a “pariah state” because of its well know human rights abuse record and support of death and devastation in Yemen. We have learned that arming horrible states does not buy us security and only results in despair and resentment against the U.S. In the future do not arm states that are engaged in major human rights abuses!

Sample script to President Biden and Sec. of State Blinken:
I am a life-long Democrat living and voting in Arizona. While campaigning, Pres. Biden promised to turn Saudi Arabia into a pariah state and place human rights at the center of our foreign policy. What happened to you folks? Your administration’s recent approval of $650 million in air-to-air missiles rewards a state engaged in massive human rights abuses against journalists, women and the people of Yemen. Strategic alliances with tyrants never leads to long term security. Rather, it breeds contempt and disgust for the United States. Please do not fund or approve these awful projects.
