A. Demand Krysten Sinema stop sacrificing airline safety for airline cash! Senator Sinema
has teamed up with Republican colleagues to weaken the rules on how many hours of safety training pilots must complete before flying a commercial plane. The current 1500-hour training requirement has been in place since 2009, after a tragic plane crash in Buffalo, NY that killed 50 people. Senator Sinema has raised some $150,000 from the airline industry in the past two election cycles with most received in the last two years. Senator Sinema seems to be willing to sacrifice airline safety to fill her campaign coffers. Demand that Senator Sinema stop undermining airline safety!!!
B. Insist that our House Representative oppose Speaker McCarthy’s closed door commission to “look at” Social Security and Medicare! After the debt ceiling agreement, Speaker McCarthy announced plans to create a commission to “look at the entire budget” including Social Security and Medicare. When Republicans say they want to create a commission to “look at” Social Security and Medicare, they mean one thing: benefit cuts. New poling from Data for Progress shows that a commission tasked with cutting Social Security and Medicare is extremely unpopular with voters. Seventy-two percent of likely voters, including 65 % of Republicans, oppose the creation of such a commission. Indeed, only 3% of voters and 2% of Republicans support cutting Social Security benefits!! In fact, 56% of all voters favor increasing Social Security benefits!
Social Security and Medicare are earned benefits. Social Security doesn’t contribute a single penny to the national debt. It is fully funded by the contributions of American workers and other dedicated revenue. Insist that our House Representative strongly oppose any attempt to reduce Social Security and Medicare benefits and demand that he not participate in Speaker McCarthy’s closed door commission!!
