For Sen. Sinema: John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
While Sen. Sinema and Manchin have to date blocked reform of the filibuster, this week we prod Sen. Sinema to prove herself by corralling 10 Republican’s to support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4). In fact, all 50 Democrats and Republican Senator Murkowski (Alaska) support the Act. She needs to come up with 9 more Republicans!
Sample voice mail to Senator Sinema: “My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX.
I am urgently requesting that you show leadership and find a way to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act which you have co-sponsored. All Democrats, including Senator Manchin, and even Sen. Murkowski support the Act. Isn’t it incumbent on you to find 10 Republican votes on something so crucial to our democracy to prove the utility of the filibuster?”

For Senator Kelly: Infrastructure – Reject the “moderates”: Last Thursday a bi-partisan group of ten moderate senators (including Sen. Sinema) proposed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure package that does not raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans or corporations. Relying on “user fees” and other gimmicks just enshrines the Trump era give away to the super wealthy and increases the historic level of wealth disparity in America. Democrats can pass a better bill through the reconciliation process that makes the wealthy pay their share and addresses global warming.
Sample voicemail or email to Sen. Kelly: “My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX. Last Thursday a bi partisan group of ten senators agreed to promote a $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan without any tax increases on the super-wealthy or corporations. We need to reverse the massive transfer of wealth to the super-rich and corporations under the Trump administration and require them to pay their fair share. Continuing to shift their tax obligations to ordinary American through “user fees” and other gimmicks, under a plan that does nothing to address global warming is unfair and not in America’s interest. It’s time to pass a better bill through the reconciliation process.

For Rep. O’Halleran: Repeal the Use of Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002. This is coming up for a vote this week!
In 2002, Congress ducked its responsibility to declare war (or not) when it granted George W. Bush authority to decide the issue and use force against Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi. We all know how that came out (false intelligence, no weapons of mass destruction, hundreds of thousands of lives lost). It’s time Congress reclaimed its constitutional authority and revoke the Use of Force Resolution. There is bi-partisan support for the repeal including co sponsors Andy Biggs (R) and Raul Grijalva (D).
Sample voicemail or email to Rep. O’Halleran: “My name is XXXX and I live in XXXXX. I’m urging you to vote this week in favor of H.R. 256 for the repeal of Authorization for the Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution issued in 2002 and which is still in effect. It’s time for Congress to reclaim its constitutional role as the sole body authorized to declare war. The 2002 Resolution abdicated that responsibility and gave President George W. Bush the green light to invade Iraq, based on what turned out to be faulty intelligence and outright lies. We all know what a disaster that turned out to be.”
