Demand our Members of Congress repeal the 1873 Comstock Act NOW! The Comstock Act banned the mailing of contraceptives or anything that could be used in an abortion. It has been largely unenforced over the past 100 years. However, it is a key element of the Republican Project 2025 to eliminate abortion access nationally. The repeal of this act gained renewed urgency when Supreme Court Justices Alito and Thomas urged the plaintiffs in the failed attempt to negate the abortion pill earlier this year, to return their case but use the Comstock Act to secure a positive ban from the court. One of the architects of Project 2025, Jonathan Mitchell, said in an interview with the New York Times, “We don’t need a federal ban (on abortion) when we have Comstock on the books.” A group of women Democratic Senators introduced a repeal of the Comstock Act just this past Thursday (6/20). Insist our Senators and Representative fully support this repeal ASAP!

Insists that Congress hold greedy private equity firms accountable!! Recently, the Red Lobster restaurant chain declared bankruptcy. Some thought the cause was it’s Endless Shrimp promotion – not so. The real cause was the fact that Golden Gate Capital bought the chain in 2014 and proceeded to sell off Red Lobster’s real estate. After making money selling the real estate, Golden Gate cashed out of their investment in 2016. Red Lobster restaurants were then left responsible for monthly lease payments that were well above market rates and cost them an additional $190 Million per year. This is what private equity does. Sells assets and cashes out while leaving companies and employees in the lurch! Demand our Senators pass the Stop Wall Street Looting Act – proposed by Senator Elizabeth Warren!!

Eli Crane is at it again – tell him what you think!! Eli Crane supported or co-sponsored several new bills this past week. One was a resolution to nullify the contempt of Congress indictments of Steve Bannon, Peter Navarro, Dan Scavino and Mark Meadows. All individuals who have done irreparable damage to our Democracy. Another was the Cuts Act in which Mr. Crane wants to slash funding of various climate initiatives. Another was H.R. 8070 (nominally aimed to improve servicemember quality of life) which defunds President Biden’s climate change executive orders, prohibits critical race theory and DEI initiatives in the Department of Defense, and prohibits funds for abortions or abortion travel. Reach out to our busy House Representative and let him know just how you feel about all his “work”!!
