FEDERAL ACTION ALERT – November 13, 2023

Produced by Democrats of the Red Rocks and Coconino County Democratic Party

A. Urge our Congressional Representatives to oppose President Biden’s proposal that establishes three new oil lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico over the next five years! President Biden, during his 2020 campaign, promised to end new oil leasing on federal waters. His recent proposal reverses his campaign vow and continues to put our communities and oceans at risk. It is known that when
companies drill, they spill. President Biden’s plan is now with Congress for a 60 day review period. Our Representatives have the power to stop this plan and protect our coasts through legislation. Demand that they resist any additional oil lease sales in federal waters!!

B. Members of Congress should not own or trade individual stocks!! The COVID pandemic turned out to be a financial opportunity for lawmakers like former Sen. David Perdue and former Rep. Kelly Loeffler – who made millions by using non-public information only granted to Congress to trade stocks. This unethical practice continues. At least 15 members of Congress with a hand molding defense policy invest in military contractors. Congress receives insider information that makes trading stocks a
conflict of interest!! It’s time to address this by prohibiting politicians from using non-public information to personally benefit n the stock market. The Ending Trading an Holdings in Congressional Stocks (ETHICS) Act would prohibit members of Congress, their spouses and dependent children from abusing their positions for personal financial gain. Congress must restore public trust and ensure that out elected officials remain focused on the nation’s welfare, not their stock portfolios.

C. Demand that our House Representative do his JOB and fund the government! The House needs to address the funding issues for the government and they only have FIVE DAYS to do it!! MAGA Republicans in the House have made their intentions crystal clear – they are willing to force a costly shutdown to impose their extremist agenda on the nation. One of the key perpetrators in this scheme is our own House Representative, Eli Crane! He, along with his other extremist MAGA cohorts want to have a CLOSED-DOOR commission cut Medicare and Social Security as a precondition to keeping the government funded. In addition, they want to pass hateful immigration bills, target the Justice Department and FBI for political purposes end policies at the Pentagon that they call “cancerous woke”– defined to be anything they don’t like. The position of OUR Representative is designed to force a costly government shutdown – one that will impact the poor, elderly, children, and hard-working families everywhere the most!! They are demanding conditions that can never be passed just to completely disregard the people and impose their own personal agendas on everyone. DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN!!! We need our Representative, Eli Crane, to step up and stop this foolishness and get to work on the serious business of governance. Pass legislation to keep the government operating ASAP!!
