Sylvia Allen Can’t Hide Her Backward Views

During a rambling, 25-minute speech peppered with religious and autobiographical references, Allen expressed a worldview that the founding principles of the United States are under attack by feminists, secularists, and immigrants. That happened on July 15, according to reporting by the Phoenix New Times. Then it got worse.

Having experienced national and statewide condemnation as well as refutation from the North Carolina Professor she claimed supported her racist views, Allen issued one of those non-apology apologies that politicians all too often stoop to: “to anyone who has been hurt by my words.” Washington Post, July 28.

Then, in an interview with the Flagstaff paper, Arizona Daily Sun, Allen made the stunning — and racially tone-deaf — claim that she had been subjected to a “verbal lynching” for her original remarks.

Allen’s Democratic opponent is Felicia French. In response to Allen’s original remarks, French tweeted:

Diversity is what makes America great. I was proud to serve with countless immigrants over my 32 years in the military. Immigrants and their children also founded nearly 50% of Fortune 500 companies, employed 13.5 mil people and created $6.1 trillion in annual revenue in 2018.
