Did you know that Senator Kyrsten Sinema supports federal legislation to abolish the filibuster?
No Way! Why just the other day, Senator Sinema was saying in connection with federal voting rights legislation that there was no need for her to restate her “long-standing support for the 60-vote threshold to pass legislation” because she believes in “thoughtful public debate.”
Way. She’s even a co-sponsor with Senator Joe Manchin on legislation that would allow a bill to be brought to the floor for a vote without the need for 60 votes to end debate on the bill.
No Way!
Way. And then the Senate could pass the bill by a simple majority vote.
No Way!
Way. Check it out, S. 1295, Section 5(c)(3): Text – S.1295 – 117th Congress (2021-2022): TRUST Act of 2021 | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
What??? What would this legislation do?
It would allow Congress to fast-track bills that would cut our Social Security and Medicare benefits so that Senators would not have to get bogged down hearing from constituents or spend time in public debate.
No filibuster to prevent these bills from getting to the floor for a vote, and only 51 votes to pass the legislation.
What??? Do you mean to say that Senator Sinema only supports the filibuster and minority rule when it suits her purposes?
