The following voter suppression bills are due to be voted on in the Arizona Senate on Monday, May 23!  Please contact Karen Fann – Senate President and our AZ Senators to demand that these bills NOT be brought up for a vote or approved!!!

HB 2170 – Voter Registration – This requires that on third party voter registration materials that those materials have to announce, in letters 10% the height of the letter or flyer that it is not from any government agency.  Clearly intended to intimidate potential voters into not registering.

HB 2236 – Voter Registration – This would prohibit governmental agencies from registering a person to vote unless they asked to be registered.  This would ban automatic registration such as when obtaining a drivers license and it applies only to government agencies – thus prohibit agencies from training employees and volunteers on how to register potential voters – a clear attempt to thwart third party efforts to increase registrations.

HB 2238 – Drop Boxes – This would require personal monitoring of drop boxes.  Would significantly reduce the number of drop boxes and thus make it that much harder for people to vote.  For example, in Coconino County almost 40% of ballots cast in 2020 were left at drop boxes.

HB 2602 – Emergency Voting Centers – This would restrict the use of emergency voting centers to only “genuine emergency, such as war, civil unrest or natural disaster.”  This makes it likely that a significant number of voters will be substantially impaired in the ability to vote on election day.HB 2167 – Cancelling Voter Registrations – This tightens requirements for cancelling voter registrations to prevent potential votes being cast by those not adequately registered.  This is a solution in search of a problem.  Another attempt to disenfranchise voters.
