Let’s be clear: From 2012-2019, local police in Arizona – including Tucson, Phoenix, Mesa, Glendale and Scottsdale – have killed people at a higher rate than the national average (https://mappingpoliceviolence.org/cities). The victims have been disproportionately black, brown and indigenous.
These are the facts. And don’t even get me started on the economic, health, and educational inequities in this state.
Governor Doug Ducey’s answer is to praise the police and impose a curfew. Is anyone still wondering why folks are so angry?
