1.Get our Senators to support the Reproductive Freedom for All Act! The Reproductive Freedom for All Act would codify the core protections of Roe into federal law. It would also guarantee access to contraceptives and enshrine elements of other Supreme Court decisions involving reproductive rights. According to the text of the bill, the court has long held that the provisions of equal protection and due process under the law contained in the 14th Amendment guarantee the right to make certain reproductive decisions without government interference.
Republican senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Maine’s Susan Collins along with Virginia Democrat Tim Kaine, and Kristin Sinema are co-sponsors.
Supporters say the bill is crucial in order to protect people’s ability to make their own healthcare decisions regardless of where they live. Demand our Representatives do all they can to get this act passed!!
2. Demand the House refrain from weakening the Office of Congressional Ethics!! The current House leadership plan is to severely weaken the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) – its one of their FIRST actions!! They plan to do this in two ways: First, they want to impose term limits on the membership of the OCE simply to remove three longstanding Democrats from the board. Secondly, they plan to defund the office so it can’t hire staff or change compensation. These actions will bring the OCE’s ethics investigations in the future to a grinding halt!! The OCE is bi-partisan watchdog that helps monitor and report on ethics issues involving members of Congress and staff. The OCE is tasked with conducting investigations and making recommendations to the House Ethics Committee on whether to investigate further. One should ask why Republicans want to remove this watchdog as one of there very FIRST actions? Can it be they don’t want to help accountable? Call our new House Representative and demand he deny support for this effort to severely weaken the OCE!!
