FEDERAL ACTION ALERT –June 12, 2023
A. Demand our House and Senate Representatives pass the EQUALITY ACT! There is an
alarming surge in discriminatory attacks against LGBTQ+ people so far this year. Over
400 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced across state legislatures this year alone!
Many of these bills target transgender youth, denying them access to essential and life-
saving healthcare. It is important to recognize that our fellow citizens are not
adequately safeguarded from discrimination under current federal laws. Discrimination
persists in education, housing, transportation, medical care, public goods and services,
family planning and even jury service. Demand our representatives take immediate
action to pass the EQUALITY ACT and affirm LGBTQ+ civil rights!!
B. Ask President Biden to step in to remove Postmaster General Louis DeJoy!! It turns
out the President Biden cannot directly fire Dejoy. Only the Postal Board of Governors
can do that. However, President Biden can nominate Postal Board members who are
willing to save our Postal Service and remove this Trump appointee. President Biden
has the opportunity to nominate two new Postal Board members right now. We need
President Biden to act to save the USPS and help us hold on to a cherished public
service!!
C. Urge our Senators to confirm Dale Ho as a judge on the Southern District of New York.
Dale Ho is eminently qualified to serve on the federal bench. He has dedicated his
career to advancing civil and human rights, particularly voting rights. He has led the
ACLU Voting Rights Project since 2013. He is a second generation Filipino and would be
the only Asian American Pacific Islander man sitting on the Southern District of New
York. It has been over a year since President Biden nominated Mr. Ho and it is time to
have him confirmed. Ask our Senators to confirm Dale Ho now!!
