- Demand Senator Mitch McConnell DO SOMETHING to stop Senator Tuberville’s tantrum over DOD (Department of Defense) policy covering travel expenses for service members seeking abortions! Senator Tuberville, Alabama, has blocked over 400 military promotions so far. Our military will continue to operate but this single Senator’s tantrum is costing servicemembers and their families. People are taking on work they are not compensated for, it will impact their retirement benefits, and its created financial and logistical burdens for troops’ families. Senator McConnell can threaten to remove Tuberville from Senate committees, he can push big donors to cut off donations, he can work with Democrats to get rid of this terrible rule in the Senate that allows a single Senator to hold up the whole body!! Senator Tuberville has stalled all high-level military promotions since February to protest the Pentagon’s new reproductive health policies. Tuberville is playing games with our national security and the well-being of our troops. Demand Senator McConnell DO SOMETHING to halt Tuberville’s destruction of our Armed Services ASAP!!
- Ask President Biden to exercise his responsibility to crack down on private Medicare Advantage plans in order to protect Medicare, ensure patients get the care they need, and stop private insurers from gaming the system. The U.S. Senate just held hearings on health insurance corporations using predatory, deceptive advertising to get people to enroll in their private Medicare Advantage plans. Insurance companies are taking advantage of seniors with marketing, care denials, and shrinking networks. They are also taking advantage of the entire Medicare program. Nine of 10 private insurance companies offering Medicare Advantage plans have overbilled Medicare between $12 and $25 Billion, according to the Senate Finance Committee. Congress created Medicare Advantage 20 years ago to provide better care and lower costs. IT IS NOT SUCCEEDING!! The New York Times reports that these giant Medicare Advantage insurers, ‘have developed elaborate systems to make their patients appear as sick as possible, often without providing additional treatment” so the insurers can charge the government more for these patient’s Medicare plans. President Biden MUST crack down on Medicare Advantage!!
- Reach out to all of our Federal Representatives to BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS NOW!! Most recently a gunman killed 18 people and wounded another 13 in Lewiston, Maine using a assault rifle – thoughts and prayers are still NOT enough!! Assault weapons are disproportionately used in crimes involving multiple victims. With easy access to military-style semi-automatic assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, too many individuals have attacked our schools, malls, concerts, movie theaters, places of worship, stores, highways, parades and other public spaces. The 1994 federal assault weapon ban reduced the risk of a person in the U.S. dying from a mass shooting by 70%!! Both the number of deaths and the number of annual incidents decreased significantly. Americans deserve a strong response from the federal government – ban assault weapons NOW!!
