URGENT! URGENT! URGENT!
Need people to call/text/fax/email Legislators to tell them to vote NO on the current budget package!
They will be voting tomorrow (Thursday). Democrats walked out yesterday to block the budget bill that includes a massive tax cut, inadequate funding for education and other public services, and also several non-budget bills (anti education bills) that had been killed in committee.
The current budget package contains a 2.5% flat tax, to be implemented by 2025, that would reduce the General Fund by $1.9 BILLION by then and would continue into the future. Such a provision would impact “regular” folks – those earning, say less than $1100,000 per year, by reducing state income tax by about 3% or maybe $200. The impact for those earning $1 Million per year would be to reduce state income taxes by 42% or over $100,000!! Clearly designed to reward wealthy Arizonans at the expense of the rest of us.
Remember, it takes a simple majority in the Legislature to reduce taxes but it takes a 2/3 majority in both houses to increase them!! If this flat tax passes it will be with us for a very, very long time.
