FEDERAL ACTION ALERT – March 13, 2023

Produced by Democrats of the Red Rocks and Coconino County Democratic Party

  1. Demand our House Representative support the EACH Act!!!  The Each Act is the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance.  This is the first piece of abortion access legislation introduced in the new Congress.  It would end the Hyde Amendment – an archaic, decades-old provision that bans abortion coverage for people enrolled in Medicaid and other federal programs – and the EACH Act would prohibit the federal government from interfering with private insurance companies that choose to cover abortion care.  Insist that our representative support the EACH Act!!
  2. Demand our Representatives take the pledge NOT to cut Social Security or Medicare!!  Lately, Representative Jim Baird (R- Ind) confirmed that cuts to Social Security and Medicare are on the table in the discussions about the debt ceiling hostage crisis.  Social Security and Medicare are critical social programs for tens of millions of Americans.  We must impress our representatives that these programs are too important to all Americans to mess with – especially in dealing with a manufactured crises of raising the debt ceiling.  Ask our Reps to take the pledge to NOT cut Social Security or Medicare!!
  3. Reach out to the Biden Administration to NOT approve the Willow Project!!  The Willow Project is a massive crude oil extraction effort planned by ConocoPhillips in Alaska, capable of producing 180,000 barrels of oil per day at its peak.  The 280 million tons of planet warming carbon dioxide the Willow Project is projected to spew will not only affect Alaska – the impact will be global.  The amount of pollution this represents is equal to some 76 coal fired power plants EVERY YEAR!!  Ask President Biden to NOT approve the Willow Project.
  4. Ask our Representatives to pass a STRONG 2023 Farm Bill to support people facing hunger.  The farm bill is the cornerstone anti-hunger legislation at the national level.  Every five years, Congress has the chance to strengthen critical federal nutritional programs.  These include the Emergency Food Assistance (TEFAP) which sends food from farms to food banks – critical assistance.  Also, the Supplementation Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) which provides monthly grocery assistance to 40 million people.  And the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) which sends boxes of nutritious food to seniors.  Insist our Representatives support a STRONG Farm Bill in 2023!!
  5. Let our House Representatives, Eli Crane, know how you feel about his “One in the Chamber”, AR-15 motif newsletter.  Clearly Representative Crane is targeting those constituents who support unrestricted gun access, disapproves of America’s support for Ukraine, thinks any government spending that doesn’t target white males is wasteful, thinks that bureaucratic “overreach” is a bad thing but is just fine with legislating government control over women’s bodies, wants to build the wall along our southern border, and believes in the Trump dynamic of America First.  Let him know how you feel about his newsletter and his positions.
