For Senator Kelly:  Senator Kelly has not expressed a position on four crucial areas of concern to Democrats that would protect voters’ rights, make Washington DC a state, and on removing the filibuster.  Please urge him to issue a statement of support for the For the People Act, The John Lewis Voter Protection Act, Washington DC Statehood and for removing the Filibuster.

CONTACT BOTH SENATORS TO SUPPORT THE NOMINATION OF DEB HAALAND AS INTERIOR SECRETARY – THAT VOTE IS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23.

For Representative O’Halleran:

SUPPORT THE US CITIZENSHIP ACT OF 2021.  Introducted on Feb. 18, 2021 this is the major White House push for major immigration reform.  The Act would grant five year temporary legal status for up to 11 million eligible undocumented persons in the US, including Dreamers.  There would be a pathway to citizenship in the three following years.  

SUPPORT HR 40 TO CREATE A COMMISSION TO EXAMINE THE INSTITUTION OF SLAVERY AND ITS IMPACT AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR REPARATIONS TO CONGRESS.  

SUPPORT HR 803 – Protecting America’s Wilderness and Public Lands Act  – This resolution incorporates an number of wilderness, wild and scenic rivers, and public land acts that were all passed by the House last year but never heard in the Senate.  Includes the Grand Canyon Protection Act.

AMERICA’S WILDRERNESS AND PUBLIC LANDS ACT. (HR 1052) . This Act 

withdraws 1.2 million acres of public lands surrounding the Grand Canyon from uranium mining, designates as wilderness 1.49 million acres of public lands and protects 1000 miles of rivers as “scenic rivers.”

Good News about Covid from BOS MTG 2/16/21—Kim Musselman Report

 ∙ 5100 vaccines arrive weekly from the state—38% to county, 62% to partner agencies 

∙ Case numbers have DECREASED by 67% over the past 4 weeks 

∙ Vaccines now available for the rest of 1b including essential workers and adults with high risk in congregate settings; these two groups total approx. 37000 people.  North Country will coordinate with the Shelter to provide vaccines next week. 

∙ Fort Tuthill extended to 6 days/week made possible by additional logistical support and more available vaccines 

∙ Working with LatinX advocates to schedule appts 

∙ Fredonia will get vaccines on 2/22 via mobile outreach thru Encompass 

∙ Severe weather in midsection of country might delay shipment to county 

∙ NAU slated to become a State POD (point of delivery) with 2/27 opening at the field house on campus—not anticipated that this will affect the county weekly allocation; will be open to non-NAU people 

∙ A daily dashboard from the county to include locations and number of first and second doses soon to be online will give the public data clarity.

∙ County asking people with internet and computer skills to reach out to their neighbors who have yet to be vaccinated and help with transportation and scheduling needs: Neighbors helping Neighbors program 

∙ County will be switching from Eventbrite to ADHS system scheduling with tentative rollout for 2/26.

  • Severe weather in midsection of country delays weekly shipment to county 
  • Fort Tuthill and all partner agencies have cancelled FIRST dose appts for Thur-Sat due to weather issues in the Midwest 
  • Every attempt will be made to reschedule these appts 
  • SECOND DOSE APPTS NOT CANCELLED 
  • MONDAY 2/22 and TUESDAY 2/23 Vaccine appointments canceled – FIRST DOSE

Arizona’s Energy Destiny around HB2248 and SB1175 that will include Corporation Commissioner Anna Tovar, Former LD 7 State Representative Eric Descheenic, and youth activist Indira Nelsen that is being put on by Arizona Students Association, Northern Arizona Climate Change Alliance, and FALA Environmental Club. 

This event will be taking place on Tuesday, February 23rd at 4 pm.

There is supposed to be a meeting of the IRC on Tuesday, February 23RD at 2:00, but as of 2:35 on Sunday morning, no agenda as been posted.
