Councilmember Coral Evans Announces her Run for Flagstaff Mayor
Flagstaff — Councilmember Coral Evans announced her intention to run for Mayor of Flagstaff in 2016 from the steps of City Hall on Tuesday, January 26th, at 4 p.m.. She was elected to her second four-year term in May 2012 and served as Vice Mayor from May 2012 to November 2014. Coral is the third generation of her family to live in Flagstaff. Her family, the Dorsey’s, have been an active part of the Flagstaff & greater Northern Arizona community since the early 1900’s.
In addition to serving on Council, Coral is the Executive Director of a nonprofit organization, the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association of Flagstaff, Inc. Throughout her life in Flagstaff she has had the opportunity to work in almost every sector of our local economy, from hospitality to NAU, from W.L. Gore to Goodwill. Additionally she is an entrepreneur, and has owned and operated several small businesses here in Flagstaff.
Coral holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, a master’s degree in Business Administration, and a graduate certificate in Public Management. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sustainability Education. She was previously certified nationally in workforce development and public participation practices and is a graduate of the Flagstaff Leadership Program. Coral is also a Flinn-Brown Foundations Fellow.
Her recognitions include the Chamber of Commerce Athena Award, the United Way of Northern Arizona Community Builder Award, the Cesar Chavez Community Award, the Soroptimist International of Arizona Peak’s Rudy Award, and the Soroptimist’s Women of Distinction Award for Economic & Social Development. In 2011 Coral was recognized as a “Rising Star” by Arizona’s List, and has already received their endorsement.
Coral believes in a balanced approach to the stewardship of community resources and is passionate about creating opportunities that allow for civic engagement, civil discord, community revitalization, and genuine sustainability and advancement for Flagstaff citizens.
