FEDERAL ACTION ALERT –June 5, 2023
- Demand our House Representative support the EACH Act!!! The Each Act is the Equal
Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance. This is the first piece of abortion
access legislation introduced in the new Congress. It would end the Hyde-Amendment – an archaic, decades-old provision that bans abortion coverage for people enrolled in Medicaid and other federal programs – and the EACH Act would prohibit the federal government from interfering with private insurance companies that choose to cover abortion care. Insist that our representative support the EACH Act!!
- Ask our House and Senate Representatives to support the ETHICS Act!! The Ethics Act is an acronym that stands for the Ending Trading and Holdings in Congressional Stocks Act. It proposes prohibiting members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent minors from owning or trading stocks, commodities, or futures. The act attempts to eliminate potential conflicts of interest and restore public trust in our elected representatives. Reports have revealed that numerous members of Congress and their staff have violated a financial conflict-of-interest law, STOCK ACT, which requires lawmakers to disclose financial trades within 90 days. Yet , they’re reprimanded with barely a slap on the wrist! Members of Congress should not be allowed to own or trade individual stocks!!
- Demand our Representatives in both chambers pass the Supreme Court Ethics Act!! Public faith in the U.S. Supreme Court is at an all -time low! This is not just due to ideology differences. Members of the court are defying conflict of interest standards. From Clarence Thomas accepting luxury gifts from a major Republican donor to John Roberts’ wife recruiting lawyers for firms who have business before the Supreme Court, we can no longer trust that the Justices are being fair. Insist that Congress pass the Supreme Court Ethics Act!!
- Let our House Representative, Eli Crane, know how you feel about his actions! According to Rep Crane’s stylistically offensive newsletter, One in the Chamber, he lobbied for the following: Opposed the Debt Ceiling deal reached by President Biden and Speaker McCarthy, Opposes the Guest Worker Visa program, wants to Abolish USAID – it seems because it has funded some LGBTQ+ programs around the world, wants to establish Copper and Uranium as “critical minerals” which would essentially allow unlimited mining in Arizona, wants to ban the use of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) factors in evaluating investments in the TSP (Thrift Savings Plan) program, and wants to establish that life begins at conception!! Let Eli Crane know how you feel about his positions on these issues!
